What is Musthache Transplant?
A mustache transplant is similar to other facial hair transplants, such as beard or eyebrow transplants. The most commonly used technique for mustache restoration is FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), where individual hair follicles are extracted one by one from the donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp. These follicles are then transplanted into tiny incisions made in the mustache region. The hair follicles are placed in a manner that mimics the natural direction of hair growth to ensure a natural look. The procedure is minimally invasive, usually performed under local anesthesia, and does not require a large incision. Since the hair used for the transplant comes from the patient's own scalp, the results are permanent, and the risk of rejection is very low.
What To Expect After The Procedure
After a mustache transplant, the recovery process is typically quick, though some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort may occur around the transplanted area. Some scabbing or crusting around the newly transplanted hair follicles is also common but should heal within a few days. The transplanted hairs will typically fall out within the first few weeks, which is completely normal. This shedding occurs because the hair follicles enter a resting phase before new growth begins. New mustache growth should start appearing in about 3 to 6 months, with full results visible in 9 to 12 months as the transplanted hair thickens and blends with the surrounding facial hair. Post-procedure care is important and may include avoiding direct sun exposure, refraining from shaving or trimming the mustache too early, and following a gentle cleaning routine. Regular follow-up visits may be necessary to monitor progress and ensure proper healing.
