What is Beard Transplant?
A beard transplant is a minimally invasive procedure where hair follicles are extracted from areas of the scalp with dense, healthy hair (typically the donor area) and then transplanted to areas of the face with little or no hair growth (typically the beard or mustache area). The most commonly used techniques are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation). In FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted and transplanted one by one, while in FUT, a strip of skin with hair follicles is removed, and the follicles are dissected before being transplanted. The procedure usually takes a few hours, and since it involves using the patient's own hair, it’s a safe and natural solution with a low risk of rejection.
What To Expect After The Procedure
After a beard transplant, the recovery process is typically quick, though some redness, swelling, and minor discomfort around the transplant site may occur. Most individuals can return to normal activities within a few days, but strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for a few weeks to allow for proper healing. The transplanted hair will typically shed within the first few weeks, which is a normal part of the process. New hair growth should begin to appear within 3 to 6 months, and the full results are generally visible within 9 to 12 months after the procedure. During this time, the new beard hair will gradually thicken and blend in with the surrounding facial hair. Follow-up consultations may be required to ensure proper healing and address any concerns.
